Footnotes

.slate-footnotes. A class and not an ol rule: an <ol> is an ordered list everywhere it appears (a footnotes block, a recipe's steps, a ranking), and there is no second reading of the tag the way <aside>'s box is the callout's justification for taking the bare element. Set at the caption role, one step down from body: footnotes are read as continuous text once a reader follows a marker down, not scanned the way the micro-label idiom is.

  1. The hairline above is the same rhythm the pager draws below an article.
  2. One step down from body, in both size and colour: furniture text, not article text.

Not operable: reached like any other list, with no tab stop of its own.
